My name is Patricia Tennant. I lost my father to sporadic CJD on October 18, 2007. My interest in prion disease stems from his illness and my family's experience.
My ideas here are designed to utilize my previous experience in government relations and politics. I interned on Capitol Hill and had a temporary staff position in the same office. I have worked for a delegate in the Virginia legislature and worked for a state legislative monitoring firm. I feel there are many important issues surrounding prion diseases that need to be addressed and want to work to ensure the proper legislation or regulations are put in place.
Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) is in the prion disease family, which include variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (vCJD), Fatal Familial Insomnia (FFI), Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker Disease (GSS), Kuru, Scrapie in sheep and goats, Chronic Wasting Disease in deer and elk, and Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in cattle, better known as Mad Cow Disease. No treatment exists for any of these disease and all are 100% fatal.
